On the occasion of Mujib Birth Centenary and Golden Jubilee of Independence of Bangladesh, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) organised three-day long ‘National Dance Festival’ with the theme ‘Dance Against Corona.’
The festival was held at the National Theatre Hall of BSA. The festival features 75 dance recitals of 75 dance troupes from across the country. 50 dance groups were provided with the financial assistance of Tk 1 lakh, while 25 troupes were given Tk 80,000 each. The inaugural ceremony kicked off with BSA’s Director General Liaquat Ali Lucky presenting each guest with an Uttorio. The programme started off with the welcome speech of BSA Secretary Md Asaduzzaman and was presided over by Liaquat Ali Lucky. State Minister for Cultural Affairs K M Khalid was present as the chief guest while Bangladesh Dance Artistes’ Association President Minu Haque was a special guest at the inaugural ceremony of the festival. The festival was ended on January 22.
The festival incorporated around a thousand dancers and 75 directors performing under several genres. This is the first time this many art forms have been performed at a festival. Aside from performing at the National Theatre Auditorium, many cultural organisations organised performances in their own districts. The festival was broadcast live from the Facebook page of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
