The 4th national convention of Swadhinata Chikitsak Parishad (Swachip), a body of pro-independence doctors, will be held at Suhrawardy Udyan in the city today.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the convention as the chief guest.
Co-chairman of the convention preparatory committee Prof Dr Moniruzzaman Bhuiyan told BSS that all preparations for holding the 4th national convention of Swachip have been completed.
An election commission has already been constituted with Dr CM Delwar Rana as chairman, Dr Mosaddek Ahmed as member-secretary and Prof Dr Md Ismail Khan as member for conducting the election of the Swachip.
Sources in the organisation said that the last election of Swachip, an Awami League-inclined organisation of doctors floated on December 24 in 1993, was held in 2003.
In that election, former Health Minister Prof Dr AFM Ruhal Haque and Prof Dr Iqbal Arsalan were elected as president and secretary general respectively of the doctors’ body.
