Nat’l Confce on ‘Sustainable Biodiversity’ begins

A two-day National Conference on Conservation of Animal Habitants for Sustainable Biodiversity has begun on Friday at Bangladesh Shishu Academy Auditorium here.
Department of Zoology of Dhaka University (DU) and Zoological Society of Bangladesh jointly organized the conference.
Vice-Chancellor of DU Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman presided over the inaugural function while former Chairman of Bangladesh University Grants Commission Emeritus Prof. Dr. AK Azad Chowdhury addressed it as the chief guest.
Special Assistant to the Prime Minister, Prof. Selima Khatun, Secretary of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs Dr. Aparup Chowdhury, Chief Conservator of Forests Mohammad Shafiul Alam Chowdhury, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Burdwan, India Prof. Dr. Nimai Chandra Saha, Managing Director of ACI Ltd. Dr. FH Ansary, Country Director of Worldfish, Bangladesh Dr. Malcolm W Dickson, Member of Bangladesh Public Service Commission Md. Shajahan Ali Mollah and Pro-Vice Chancellor of Rajshahi University Prof. Dr.
Ananda Kumar Shaha addressed the conference as special guests. Chairman of the Department of Zoology of DU Prof. Humayun Reza Khan, President of Zoological Society of Bangladesh Prof. Dr. Gulshan Ara Latifa and General Secretary of Zoological Society of Bangladesh Dr. Tapan Kumar Dey also addressed the programme.
While addressing the event, Former Chairman of Bangladesh University Grants Commission Emeritus Prof. Dr. AK Azad Chowdhury stressed the need for conservation of animal habitats to preserve biodiversity. “Conservation of biodiversity is a constitutional obligation of the entire citizen,” he said.
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman emphasized on conservation of animal habitants to achieve sustainable development goals. He called upon the researchers, academicians and professionals to play an effective role to achieve these goals.
