The National Board of Revenue (NBR) will observe the ‘National VAT Day-2018’ today aiming to encourage people to pay the Value Added Tax (VAT) for the country’s development.The NBR will also observe the ‘National VAT Week-2018’ from December 10 to 15 next.
The slogan of this year’s ‘VAT Day’ and ‘VAT Week’ is ‘VAT Dichhe Janogan, Desher Hochhe Unnayan’.
NBR chairman M Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan will inaugurate the day and the week at the NBR headquarters in the city.
The NBR will organise a view-exchange meeting at Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) in the capital. The NBR will honour the highest VAT payers in the meeting where Finance Minister AMA Muhith will attend as the chief guest.
In separate messages, President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina greeted the tax payers, VAT administration and its officials on the occasion of the National VAT Day-2018 and the National VAT Week-2018. In his message, President Abdul Hamid said revenue mobilisation is very important for running the country.
He said most of the funds for development projects and the government’s expenditures come from revenue. So, he said, mutual trust, faith and cooperation between the NBR officials and the business community are essential for ensuring enough revenue collection. He said the NBR has been playing a very encouraging role in increasing revenue mobilisation for financing the country’s development programmes. He called upon people of all strata, including businessmen, consumers and revenue officials, to come forward to help the NBR increase the country’s revenue.
In her message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said her government has taken various steps for strengthening the revenue management and boosting revenue collection.
She said the government has improved the standard of revenue collection by creating business-friendly environment, enacting revenue policy, and using modern technology in the business and revenue related activities.
