The BNP and the Juktafront have formed a joint committee to expedite the process of forming a greater national unity.
“We have assigned three of our leaders to discuss with the BNP’s equal number of stipulated leaders on forming a national unity soon,” Mahmudur Rahman Manna, Convener of Nagorik Oikyo and senior leader of Juktafront told The New Nation on Friday.
He said, it is very important in the current situation to form a national unity among the political parties. We are trying our best for this.
Manna said, the Juktafront has assigned three leaders, including Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) President ASM Abdur Rab, Mahmudur Rahman Manna and Bikalpa Dhara Secretary General Major (Rtd) Abdul Mannan.
He said, the joint panel has been formed after discussion with BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
But he avoided to names the panel members of the BNP.
Manna said, the discussion among the two parties will start soon.
Replying to a query Manna said, we are not going to form unity with Jamaat-e-Islami.
The party (Jamaat) may stay in BNP-led alliance, but not with the national unity.
According to the sources, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing Committee Members Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain and Barrister Moudud Ahmed included the discussion panel.
The two parties formed the panels on Thursday night separately.
When contacted, Dr Mosharraf Hossain avoided the matter saying party’s Secretary General may talk about it.
On the other hand, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir cannot receive the phone call.
National unity will be strengthened-Moudud: BNP Standing Committee Member Barrister Moudud Ahmed on Friday said, the government is conspiring to harm the national unity process, but it will be strengthened soon.
“It is a must to form a national unity to oust the autocratic government. We must unite all democratic parties and the people of all walks of life to realise our demands,” Moudud Ahmed said at a discussion at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) organized by ‘Chetonai Bangladesh’, a pro-BNP platform.
Moudud Ahmed said the BNP will be with effective programmes’ under the banner of Jatiya Oikya to oust the government and hold the next polls under neutral government.
The BNP leader said, the government will be compelled to start dialogue with the BNP and others after a one minute’s movement.
Shamima Rahman, President of the organizing forum presided over the programme.
BNP central leaders Abdul Mannan and Kamruzzaman Ratan, among others also gave speeches.
