National Professor Salahuddin Ahmed has died of old-age complications at the age of 92 on Sunday morning. He breathed his last at his Banani residence in the capital at around 6:00am, said family sources. According to academic certificate, Salahuddin was born on September 24 in 1924 at Faridpur. He obtained his BA honours and MA degrees at the Department of History from the Calcutta University. Subsequently he earned AM and PhD degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and London. His teaching career began in 1948 when he joined the Jagannath College, Dhaka as a lecturer in history. The eminent professor also served as lecturer and Professor of history at the Rajshahi University, and later as professor of history at the Jahangirnagar and Dhaka Universities. Salahuddin Ahmed had studied and researched with the history and culture of modern Japan at Japan University in 1956.
