People of the port city and its adjacent areas on Monday paid rich tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on his 41st martyrdom anniversary and National Mourning Day.
The day was observed with a fresh vow to materialize the dream of Father of the Nation to build a “Sonar Bangla” and to bring back the fugitive convicted killers of Bangabandhu to execute verdict of the murder case.
Apart from the Chittagong city, north and south district units of Awami League (AL) and its front organisations, different socio-cultural organisations, trade unions, district administration and professional bodies chalked out separate programs marking the day.
Black flags were dominated the skyline of the port city and the national flag was hoisted half-mast atop the government and private buildings while mourners placed wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu. Qurankhwani, Milad Mahfil, discussion meetings, voluntary blood donation and distribution of foods among the destitute were other programmes to mark the day.
Hundreds of leaders and workers of Awami League gathered at the party office in the morning to place wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu. Around 41 discussion meetings were organised at 41 wards of Chittagong city.
The historic March 7 speech of Bangabandhu was played through loudspeakers on the port city streets.
City corporation also observed the day through various programmes including discussion meeting, hoisting of national flag half mast at its all ward offices, special programme at the corporation-run forkania madrasah compounds, poetry recitations, essay competitions in its all schools and colleges.
It also organised Doa Mahfil at Laldigi mosque at 10 am on Monday. CCC mayor AJM Nasir Uddin addressed the function as the chief guest. Chittagong City AL organised a discussion and a traditional “Mezban” was held at city’s Shoronika Community center this afternoon. General Secretary of Chittagong City AL Nasir Uddin attended the discussion as the Chief Guest.
A “Chittagonian traditional Mezban” was arranged for nearly 30 thousand people at Tungipara of Gopalganj district on the occasion of the 41st martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Former CCC Mayor and President of Chittagong City AL ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury organised the Mezban since last 26 years.
Chittagong District Administration also organised a discussion meeting on the occasion at city’s Shilpakala Academy with Deputy Commissioner Mezbah Uddin in the chair.
Chittagong district judgeship also organised a discussion meeting on the life and works of Bangabandhu and arranged Milad Mahfil at district Judgeship auditorium. Chittagong District and Session Judge Mohammad Nurul Huda presided over the function.
Chittagong University (CU), Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Science University (CVASU), University of Chittagong Science and Technology (USTC), Chittagong Divisional Sports Organisations and different private and govt colleges and private universities organised separate discussion meetings and Milad Mahfils in observance of the day.
Chittagong Press Club and Chittagong Union of Journalists (CUJ) observed the National Mourning Day through organising various programmes including Doa Mahfil and discussion meetings with Club President Kolim Sarwar in the chair.
Chittagong Press Club placed wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu on the club premises at 11 am.
Local dailies brought out special supplements, while Chittagong centers of Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar aired special programmes highlighting the significance of the day.
BD globally recognised after name of Bangabandhu : Vice Chancellor of International Islamic University Chittagong Prof.Dr.AKM Azharul Islam said, Bangladesh is identified after the name of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman across the world .
The name of Bangaabandhu is linked with the existence of Bangladesh, he added. He disclosed it while addressing the 41st Martyrdom anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at IIUC auditorium on Monday last as Chief Guest.
Dean of Business Faculty Prof.Dr,Farid Ahmad Sobhani, IIUC Registrar Sqn.Ldr (Rtd) Md. Nurul Islam spoke on the occasion duly presided by Pro VC Prof.Dr.Delwar Hossain . Director of Students Affairs Division AZM Obaidullah delivered address of welcome on the occasion. Additional Director Md. Mamunur Rashid conducted the programmes of martyrdom anniversary .
The chief guest in his brief deliverations said with the dynamic leadership of Bangabandhu, nation gets independence from the curse of the occupation forces in 1971.
His contribution towards emergence of Bangladesh is unforgettable and he will remain in the heart of every Bangladeshi citizen for ever ,he added.
Dean of Business faculty, Registrar participated the discussions on Bangabandhu. President on the anniversary program Prof.Dr.Delwar Hossain said Bangabandhu is not the leader of a particular party rather a unparallel leader of the Nation.
After end of the milad and Doa Mahfil followed by discussions, munajat offeredfor salvation of the departed soul of Bangabandhu, a IIUC sources said.
