Sylhet Correspondent :People of the Sylhet city and its adjacent districts on Saturday paid rich tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on his 40th martyrdom anniversary and National Mourning Day.The day was observed with a fresh vow to materialise the dream of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to build a “Sonar Bangla” and to bring back the fugitive convicted killers of Bangabandhu to execute verdict of the murder case.Apart from the Sylhet city, district units of Awami League (AL) and its front organizations, different socio-cultural organizations, trade unions, district administration and professional bodies organized separate discussion meetings marking the day.Leaders and workers of AL and its front organizations and professional bodies wear black badges in whole day.The programmes included hoisting of national and black flag at half-mast atop all party offices, placing wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu, Qurankhwani, Milad Mahfil, discussion meetings, voluntary blood donation and distribution of foods among the destitute.Hundreds of followers of AL gathered at the party office this morning to place floral wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu at 6 am.A discussion meeting was held at city’s Kobi Nojrul Auditorium Hall at 4 pm.Finance Minister Abul mal Abdul Muhit attended the discussion meeting as the chief guest.Doa and Milad Mahfils were held at different mosques and other places of worships in the city and districts seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of Bangabandhu and his family members, who were assassinated in the fateful night of August 15, 1975.Sylhet administration had taken up elaborate programme to observe the the 40th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, in the district with due respect and befitting manner.Dupchanchia(Bogra) Correspondent: The National Mourning Day and commemorating bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s 40th martyrdom anniversary was celebrated with befitting manner in Dupchanchia upazila of Bogra district on Saturday. A colorful rally was chalk out to observe the day from upazila administration office premises. Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shahed Pervez, officer-in-charge Md. Nazrul Islam, municipality mayor Belal Hossain, president of Awami-league Dupchanchia Upazila Unit Mizanur Rahman Khan Selim, secretary Alhaj Fazlul Haque, different socio-cultural, political and professional bodies, students, teachers of different educational institutions across the upazila were participated in different programmes.. Mourning rally, kangali bhoj among the poor, special prayer at the mosque and temple and discussing meeting. Presided over by UNO Md Kamrul Hasan, Member of Parliament (MP) Jessore-5 Shopon Bhattacharjee was addressed at the discussion meeting as chief gust at Upazila hall room. Among others upazila chairman Amzad Hossain Lavlu, Al Upazila President Alhaj Mahamudul Hasan, Secretary Golam Mostafa, Vice Chairman Nazma Khanom w spoke in the programme. BSS from Faridpur adds: The National Mourning Day marking the 40th anniversary of the martyrdom of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was observed in Faridpur on Saturday with due solemnity through holding various programmes.The day’s programme began with hoisting of national flag at half-mast on all public and private buildings . A mourning procession was brought out in the town participated by people of all walks of life. People placed floral wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu kept at local Ambika Memorial Hall.A centrally arranged Milad and Doa Mahfil was held at Shah Farid Dargah mosque seeking divine blessings for the departed soul of the Father of the Nation and most of his family members who were killed brutally in 1975. Special prayers were also held at all mosques and churches of the town.A discussion meeting organized by district administration was held in the evening at local Kabi Jasimuddin Hall. Addressing the meeting as the chief guest LGRD & Cooperatives Minister Engineer Khondoker Mosharraf Hossain said that as Bangalee nation we should remain grateful to Bangabandhu who made supreme sacrifices for liberating the people from the repression and autocratic clutches of the Pakistani junta.Mosharraf said that our present government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is pledge bound to materialize the dream of Bangabandhu. He called upon the people to come forward to strengthen the hands of Sheikh Hasina to build up a prosperous Bangladesh.Mosharraf urged all to forge unity among all sections of the society and unitedly extend support the endeavors of Prime Minister Shaikh Hasina to achieve vision 2021 for the economic emancipation of people and make the country a middle income and also curve out a dignified place in the comity of nations.The minister cautioned the people to be vigilant about the conspiracy of some quarters who are again active to destabilize the country and halt the social and economic progress presently going on in the country.Earlier the minister in the afternoon distributed solar panels among 154 families of Goldangir Char and addressed a meeting at Dholar Mor on the bank of river Padma organized in connection of National Mourning Day by Decreer Char unit of Awami League.The evening meeting organized by the district administration was chaired by DC Sardar Sharafat Ali.
