The National Mourning Day and 43 rd Martyred Anniversary of the architect of Independence and the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was observed in Bagerhat district town and its all the nine Upazilas with due respect and solemnity by the district administration, Upazila administrations and political and socio-cultural organizations on Wednesday as else where of the country.
Different programmes including rally, discussion meeting, Doa Mahfil, Quran Khani etc. were held in the district town to mark the day. Discussion meeting was organized in the local Swadhinata Udyan by the district administration with Tapan Kumar Biswas, DC, Bagerhat in the chair. Al-haj Dr. Moazammel Hossain, MP of Bagerhat Constituency-4 and the President of the Parliamentary Permanent Committee of the Ministry of Social welfare affair addressed the the meeting as th chief guest while Al-haj Adv. Mir Shawkar Ali Badsh, MP of Bagerhat Constituency-2 and the President of the Parliamentary Permanent Committee of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock affair addressed the same as the special guest.
Sylhet Bureau reports: People of Sylhet city and its adjacent areas on Wednesday observed the 43rd Martyrdom Anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman with a fresh call for implementing the verdict of Bangabandhu murder case by bringing back the fugitive convicted killers of Bangabandhu and his family members.
Apart from Sylhet city and district units of Awami League (AL) and its front organizations, different socio-cultural organizations, district administration and professional bodies organized separate programs marking the day. Leaders and workers of AL and its front organizations and professional bodies wore black badges throughout the day.
The day’s programs included hoisting of the national and black flags at half-mast atop all party offices, placing wreaths at the Sylhetrait of Bangabandhu, Qurankhwani, milad mahfil, discussions, poetry recitation, essay and quiz competitions on the life and activities of Bangabandhu, exhibition of films, playing of the historic March 7 speeches of Bangabandhu in 27 wards of the city corporation and blood donation.
Black flags dominated the skyline of the Sylhet city and the national flag was hoisted half-mast atop the government and private buildings while wreaths were placed on the portrait of Bangabandhu.
Hundreds of AL workers gathered at the party office in the morning to place wreaths on the portrait of Bangabandhu. The historic March 7 speech of Bangabandhu was played through loudspeakers on the Sylhet city streets.
Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) observed the day through various programs including doa and milad mahfil, discussions at 27 wards, hoisting of national flag half mast at its all ward offices, poetry recitations and essay competitions in all schools and colleges.
SUST, LU, MU, SIU, Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, Organizations and different colleges and private universities organized separate programs marking the day.
Besides, Sylhet Zilla Parisad, city units of Bangladesh Communist Party, Sector Comm-anders’ Forum, Bangladesh Shishu Academy, Islamic Foundation, also arranged different programs.
Gouripur(Mymensingh) Correspondent says: The National Mourning Day and the 43rd Martyred Anniversary of assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was observed with befitting manner on Wednesday in Gouripur upazila of Mymensingh district. Apart from the ruling Awami League (AL) Gouripur upazila unit and its front and associated bodies, different political, socio-cultural and educational organisations chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the day with due respect and wide community participation. Discussions, Milad and Doa Mahfils were arranged in different places of 10 unions and Pourashava. About 12 AL aspirants who are trying to get the party nomination for next MP election were seen busy to inaugurate respective programmes. Freedom Fighter Alhajj Nazim Uddin Ahmed, MP, inaugurated some programmes of different places. Besides, leaders of the ruling party and its associate bodies placed wreaths at Bangabandhu Chattar in the town of Gouripur.
On the occasion, Bangabandhu Parishad of Gouripur Upazila unit also arranged milad and doa mahfils and a discussion on the life and accomplishments of Bangabandhu at Dhan Mahal of this town. One of aspiring candidates vying for nominations of the 11th parliamentary election which are about 3 or 4 months away, central leader and Ex VP of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University Krishibid Dr. Shameul Alam Liton attended the meeting as chief guest; The grassroots leaders of the party attended the meeting.
Discussion, Milad and Doa Mahfils were also held separately at different institutions

Rampal-Mongla Correspondent reports: The 43rd Martyrdom Anniversary and National Mourning Day was observed in Rampal with respect and solemnity. To celebrate the day, Rampal Upazilla Administration chalked out an elaborate program in the Upazila.
After placing floral wreath to the portrait of Banganbandhu , a rally was brought out that paraded the main spot of Rampal . After the rally, a discussion meeting was held in Upazila Auditorium. Being presided over by the UNO of Rampal Tushar Kumar Paul, MP of Rampal-Mongla Constituency Habibun Nahar was present there as Chief Guest.
Besides this, formal Upazilla Chairman Prof. Mollah Abdur Rouf, Upazilla Vice Chairman Sk. Moajjem Hossain, OC of Rampa Sk. Lutfar Rahman, Muktijoddha Commander Sk. Lalmonirhat Correspondent reports: The architecture of Bangladesh, father of the nation’s 43th martyred Anniversary and National Mourning Day was observed celebrating different functions in Lalmonirhat.
A grand mourning rally, on the occasion was brought out from Lalmonirhat Govt Boys High School premises and ended at District Council Auditorium moving main roads of district town and paid wreath on the statue of father of the nation in front of auditorium as well as a discussion meeting and prize giving ceremony were held including documentary show on Bangobandhu, his life and activities. Adv: Safura Begum Rumi MP , DC Shafiul Arif , SP S M Rashidul Hoque, District Awami League leaders including the district council chairman and district Awamileague secretary Avd Motiar Rahman, freedom fighters, government officials, teachers ,students and common people joined the rally.
BSS from Gaibandha adds: National Mourning Day and the 43rd martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation and Architect of Sovereign Bangladesh Bangabandhu Sheik Mujibur Rahman observed here on Wednesday with due respect and honor.
Marking the day, district administration chalked out the elaborate programmes that include hoisting of national flag at half mast, placing floral wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, bringing out mourning procession and distribution of cheques to the trained youths and the organizations.
The programmes also included art competition for the children organized by Zila Shishu Academy (ZSA), prize distribution to the winners, rendering songs, reciting poems, milad mahfil, special prayers in the mosque, temple and churches and other religious organizations, holding blood donation programme and health camp by health department, and film display at important places by the district information office.
Besides, a discussion meeting on life of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman organized by district administration was also held at the auditorium of District Shilpakala Academy with deputy commissioner Gautam Chandra Pal in the chair.
Whip of the Jatiya Sangshad and local lawmaker Mahabub Ara Begum Gini addressed the function as the chief discussant.
Superintendent of police Engineer Abdul Mannan Miah, civil surgeon Dr. Abdus Shakur, president of Awami League district unit Advocate Syed Shams-ul-Alam Hiru, acting general secretary freedom fighter Mojammel Haque Mondal, and mayor of Gaibandha Municipality Advocate Shah Masud Jahangir Kabir Milon also spoke at the discussion.
The speakers said the August 15, 1975 is regarded as a shameful chapter in the history of Bengali nation as on this day the undisputed leader Sheikh Mujibur Rahman along with his family members were brutally assassinated at his own residence by a group of disgruntled army officers. Bangabandhu’s two daughters Sheikh Hasina (now Prime Minister) and Sheikh Rehena survived as they were abroad at that time.
Whip Mahabub Ara Begum Gini said the memory of Bangabandhu is alive not only in the month of August, but also in every moment in our life and he would remain in people’s heart forever as the best son of the soil for thousands of years.
The whip sought blessing of Almighty Allah for peace of the departed souls of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and other family members and relatives who were assassinated on the fateful night of August 15 in 1975.
Later, she distributed prizes to the winners who participated in the art and poem reciting competition.
All district and upazila level officials, political leaders of district AL and its associate organizations, public representatives, social workers and members of civil society and media attended the meeting.
Apart from it, the AL, district unit and its associate organizations also observed the day amid different programmes.
Before this, such a mourning rally came out from the court premises was organized by district judgeship and lawyer association as well as under the leadership of district Judge Bojlur Rahman at 8:30 am and it also moved the main roads of the district town. The leaders of district lawyers associations and its members were also present in the rally.
