The EXIM Bank 24th National Men’s Handball Competition began at the Shaheed (Captain) M Mansur Ali National Handball Stadium on Sunday.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Biren Sikder inaugurated the handball tournament by releasing the balloons as the chief guest while Secretary of the National Sports Council Shivnath Roy was with him as the special guest.
Vice-President of Bangladesh Handball Federation (BHF) Hasan Ullah Khan Rana, General Secretary of BHF Asaduzzaman Kohinoor, Assistant General Secretaries of the Federation Md Nurul Islam, SM Khalequzzaman Shawpan and Member of the Executive Committee Selim Mia Babu were present at the time.
In the day’s matches, BGB outclassed Naogaon DSA by 36-6 goals; Rajshahi beat Mymensingh 22-13; Bangladesh Police crushed Chuadanga 34-7; Gazipur defeated Bagerhat 22-17; Bangladesh Ansar trounced Jamalpur 34-3; Jessore beat Jhalakati 25-9; Panchagarh defeated Faridpur 22-9; Patuakhali outclassed Sylhet 19-7; Chittagong defeated Bandarban 28-16; Gopalganj beat Dinajpur 19-13; and Gaibandha crushed Feni 23-8 in the morning session.
In the afternoon session, Sunamganj beat Comilla 23-20; BGB again beat Rajshahi 24-6; Mymensingh defeated Naogaon 32-12; Bangladesh Police crushed Gazipur 33-7; Chuadanga beat Bagerhat 9-6; Bangladesh Ansar outclassed Jhalakati 40-8.
In all, 29 teams, three from services — Border Guard Bangladesh, Bangladesh Police, Ansar & VDP — and 26 district teams from across the country are taking part in the competition, split in eight groups.
