National Income Tax Day-2017 will be observed today (Thursday) across the country aiming to create awareness among the people for payment of income tax regularly.
President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have issued separate messages on the occasion wishing a success of the day.
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has chalked out elaborate programmes in observance of the day. The theme of this year’s tax day is “Sabai Mile Debo Kar, Desh Hobe Swanirbhar”.
A colourful rally will be brought out from the head-office premises of the NBR at 7am, which will parade different thoroughfares including Jatiya Press Club, Secretariat and Bijoy Nagar before termination at the NBR.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith will inaugurate the procession while state minister for finance and planning MA Mannan and NBR chairman Md Nojibur Rahman will join it.
In their messages the President and the Prime Minister greeted all officials and employees of the NBR and tax-paying individuals and companies on the occasion of the income tax day.
President Hamid in his message said the NBR has been working relentlessly to create awareness about income tax. Like previous years, it organised income tax fair, income tax week and took various innovative steps to encourage people for payment of tax, he added.
“I think the people will be encouraged more to pay tax due to NBR’s creative and forward looking programmes such as giving taxpayers tax card, rewards and recognition,” the President said.
He said the government needs to increase resources mobilization from internal sources to implement its huge development programmes for building a happy prosperous Bangladesh as per its vision-2021 and 2041.
Abdul Hamid urged all concerned to come forward with collaborative sprit to further strengthen and integrate the revenue earnings in the country.
In her message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the NBR, established by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1972, has been playing effective role in implementing the government’s vision-2021 and 2041 by further increasing the revenue earnings.
She said the NBR organised week-long income tax fair and income tax week to create a taxpayers-friendly environment and close relations between taxpayers and tax officials. Taxpayers were given income tax card this year, she added.
