National Food Safety Day observed in Rajshahi

The National Food Safety Day-2021 was observed here on Thursday with a call for protecting the public health through concerted efforts of all concerned, reports BSS.Bangladesh Food Safety Authority and district administration jointly organised a meeting in observance of the day.
Addressing the meeting in the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office, the participants resolved that collective efforts of all quarters, including the government and non-government entities, have become an urgent need for ensuring food safety for the sake of a sound public health. They identically mentioned that all sorts of unsafe foods like adulterated and contaminated ones are injurious to public health. So, there is no way but to ensure safe and nutritious food for all.
Deputy Commissioner Abdul Jalil addressed the meeting as chief guest, while Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Shariful Haque was in the chair.
District Livestock Officer Dr Ismail Haque, Deputy Director of the Department of National Consumer Rights Protection Apurba Adhikary, Additional Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture Extension Shalma Khatun and Poultry farmer Enamul Haque also spoke.
The discussants unanimously opined that proper enforcement of Consumers’ Rights Protection Act could be the vital means of protecting the consumers’ rights together with freeing the human body from any food poisoning and other contamination.
In-taking of safe food through changing food habits are very important for maintaining sound health coupled with thwarting various non-contagious diseases.
They also viewed that the number of patients suffering from various diseases including heart and cancer is gradually increasing due to in-taking of various unhygienic and unsafe foods. So, there is no way but to generate mass-awareness in this regard.
The issue of the consumers’ rights is well accepted throughout the world and in the free market economy. So, there is an urgent need of bringing all the businessmen and others concerned under the awareness programme in this regard.
Abdul Jalil mentioned that food habits are very important for human life and the food habit must be hygienic and safe. Overeating and over-drinking water is also harmful for human health.
Apurba Adhikary said all the growing children must be debarred from in-taking any fast-food and other junk food for their proper physical and mental development through freeing them from all sorts of health risks. He categorically said fast-food and junk foods are posing a serious threat to the present public health as those always trigger risks of various diseases.
