In observance of Fisheries Week-2016, District Fisheries week observance Committee organised a press conference at Zilla Fisheries office conference room here on Tuesday.
On the second day of the week a discussion meeting was held at Sadar upazila parishad hall room followed by a large colourful rally paraded from Deputy commissioner office premises to Sadar Upazila Parishad premises.
Additional Deputy Commissioner, (Gen) Narsingdi, Khandker Nural Hoque attended the function and inaugurated the week long programmes of the National Fisheries Week 2016, as chief guest with District Fishery Officer Mohammad Tofaj Uddin Ahmed in the chair. He also distributed national fisheries award 2016 among the successful fish farmers in the district.
Additional Deputy Commissioner said, the main object of the week is to put importance to optimum use of the underutilized water bodies so the country can produce additional 2.3 lakh tones of fishes in a year. He called upon all to make fish cultivation a social movement.

Fisheries Department and Upazila Administration jointly organised a discussion at Public Hall in the town on 20 July 2016.
Speakers at the meeting said, implementation of various development programmes in Fisheries sector has increased the overall fish production in the country. They said if the development programmes continue the country will be enriched with fish resources. Chaired by Margina Akter, UNO of Gouripur Upazila, the meeting was addressed among others by Ahmed Taibur Rahman, Gouripur Upazila Chairman, Mayor Syed Rafiqul Islam of Gouripur Municipality. Md Sannaul Huque , Upazila Vice Chairman, Rabeya Islam Doly, Upazila Vice Chairman. Jannat-e-Hoor, Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer,Mafizur Nur Khuka,Up Chairman of Bhangnamari Union Parishad,Md Ramij Uddin Sawpan, Up Chairman of Moaha Union Parishad, Md. Abdullah AL Amin Jony, Up Chairman of Ramgopalpur Union Parishad,Md. Sahadat Hossain Uapazila Co operative Officer. After the discussion, the Fisheries Department handed over crests andcertificates to successful fish cultivators . Earlier, the Fisheries Department brought out a rally from Upazila Parishad in the town marking the National Fisheries Week. Bagerhat Correspondent adds: Under the auspices of Bagerhat District Fishery Department , the observance of the National Fisheries Week started in Bagerhat district on Wednesday with the slogan ‘Where there is water there is fish cultivation’ . The week’s programme started with a colourful rally started from the local Sanskritik Foundation premises and paraded the main thoroughfares of the district town at 10 am and ended at the same point. It was led by Goutam Biswas, Additional Police Super of Bagerhat and attended by the cross section of people.
It was followed with a lively discussion meeting held in the Sanskirtik Foundation with Shafiqul Islam, In- charge of DC, Bagerhat in the chair. Narayan Chandra Mandol, District Fishery Officer of Bagerhat explained the need and importance of observing the fishery week in his address of welcome.

After the end of the meeting fish fries are released ceremonially in the natural water in the river Bhairab that passes by the side of the District town.
