National Fisheries week-14 began in the city on Wednesday with a call for protecting natural sources and breeding places of fishes.
Fazle Karim Chowdhury, MP inaugurated the week at Muslim Institute Hall premises through a colourful procession on Wednesday morning.
Speaking at the function Fazle Karim Chowdhury, MP, called upon all concerned authorities to preserve breeding places of fishes and not to catch mother fishes during the season from June to July every year.
Chittagong district administration and department of fisheries directorate jointly organized the function.
Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong Mezbah Uddin presided over the function while Project Director of Halda river Provati Dev, local ward councillor, officials from district administration and department of fisheries directorate, among others, attended the inaugural function.
