National committee suggested strict lockdown on hotspots

The National Advisory Committee on COVID-19 on Wednesday suggested the government to cover all hotspots of coronavirus under strict lockdown soon to contain the spread of the virus.
“A complete and strict lockdown is very important right now to ensure social isolation to restrain the virus spreading among the people,” Dr Mohammod Shahidullah, Chairman of the committee, said in a statement.
The committee in its ninth meeting put forward five recommendations, including increasing the scope of hospital services, and urged for its speedy implementation and increase massive test of coronavirus expanding the laboratories testing activities.
The committee is repeatedly advocating for launching and expanding the high-flow oxygen therapy across all hospitals in its latest meeting.
Focusing on large number of health workers have been infected by the coronavirus, the committee expressed its concerns over the matter and suggested setting up separate hospitals for health workers as soon as possible.
Earlier, the committee suggested to provide separate treatments to both COVID-19 and non-COVID patients at all hospitals.
Some hospitals had failed to implement this directive so that the committee asked again the centres to follow its directive thoroughly.
“It is very important to further enhancing the treatment of COVID-19 patients. In this view, it is alos necessary to launch a chest disease hospital immediately,” the statement of the committee said.
The committee also suggested improving test quality and ensuring quick deliverance of test results.
It also suggested taking steps for the treatment or isolation of suspected patients during the waiting period until it is possible to ensure quick results of tests.
In an attempt to curb the coronavirus outbreak, the government imposed a lockdown on March 26, closing all offices and educational institutions while shutting down the public transport system. The lockdown was later extended in phases until May 30.
The offices and public transportations systems are reopened from May31.
Some members of the committee questioned the decision to lift the lockdown without proper preparation in contrast to other countries where the lockdown was lifted after the rate of infections began to decline.
Later on June 1, the government decided to divide areas as per risk zones as red, green and yellow on the basis of death and infection rates.
Aftermath, East Rajabazar area went into lockdown from Tuesday midnight due to a high coronavirus infection rate.
