Chittagong Bureau :The ruling Awami League’s mayor candidate in the Chittagong City Corporation Election AZM Nasiruddin has expressed his determination to build Chittagong as a mega city if he is voted to power. “I will try my level best to make the port city a global standard mega city. The immediate past mayor of City Corporation failed to improve the conditions of the city residents due to lack of proper planning and goodwill,” he said at a press conference held in the city’s Engineers’ Institute Hall on Monday. Awami League’s south, north and city units jointly arranged the press meet on the occasion of forthcoming Chittagong City Election. AZM Nasiruddin read out the written statement. About the water logging problems in the city, he sought cooperation of the city residents in advance in implementing his plan for the development of the city. City AL President ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury said, “Nasir is the nominated candidate of Prime Minister. We should try our best for his win in the City Corporation election.” Mohiuddin Chowdhury answered a number of questions about his candidature for the Mayor Post in the election and said that the party had selected AZM Nasiruddin on consensus. Among others, members of AL advisory council Md. Ishaq Miah, Afsarul Amin MP, MA Latif MP, Didarul Alam MP, Pro-VC of Chittagong University Iftekharuddin, President of north district AL Nurul Alam, general secretary MA Salam, south district President Moslemuddin Ahmed, general secretary Mofizur Rahman, Chairman of CDA Abdus Salam were present there.Meanwhile, AZM Nasiruddin, who is also General Secretary of Chittagong City Awami League, collected nomination paper for Mayor Post from the regional election office yesterday afternoon. The mayor candidate was accompanied by the senior leaders, workers and well-wishers at that time.
