Spokesperson of 14-party alliance and Awami League Presidium Member Mohammed Nasim on Saturday urged all irrespective of parties and faiths to stand beside the government over the Rohingya issue.
“Rohingya crisis is a humanitarian issue. None should try to catch fish in the troubled water to create any issue over the matter,” he told a press conference after the end of a meeting of the alliance at the Awami League (AL) president’s political office here.
Nasim, also Minister for Health and Family Welfare, urged all to cooperate with the government shunning all differences.
“The government is providing shelter to Rohingya refugees on completely humanitarian grounds,” he said.
The minister said because of the government’s diplomatic success, the United Nations, the USA and many countries have condemned the ongoing violence on Rohingya community in Myanmar.
He said the entire world have been witnessing how the Bangladesh government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working to handle the Rohingya crisis.
“We cannot support the violence carried out on Rohingya people. It is severe violation of humanity. It cannot be continued,” he said.
Nasim said it is a huge burden to give shelter the massive number of refugees in a densely populated country like Bangladesh.
Addressing the press conference, Workers Party President and Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon said Rohingya crisis is not only a human disaster but also Bangladesh’s national security is related with it.
“Rohingya crisis is our national problem. We should stay alert that the crisis would not hamper our country’s security and political stability,” he added.
Earlier, Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon and General Secretary Fazle Hossain Badsha, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal General Secretary Shirin Akhtar, Jatiya Party (JP) Secretary General Sheikh Sahidul Islam, AL Organising Secretaries Ahmad Hossain and AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Office Secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap, Information and Research Secretary Advocate Afjal Hossain, Deputy Office Secretary Biplob Barua and Gonotantri Party General Secretary Shahadat Hossain, among others, joined the meeting with Bangladesh Tarikat Federation Chairman Syed Nazibul Bashar Maizvandary in the chair.
