Entertainment Desk :
Naseeruddin Shah, a celebrated figure in Indian Parallel cinema, is all set to tour Bangladesh with a stage play. The thespian will act in and direct a stage play titled Ismat Apa Ke Naam staged by his troupe Motley. The play also stars his wife Ratna Pathak Shah and daughter Heeba Shah. The play will be staged at the Hall 4 of Bashundhara International Convention City on April 21 at 6pm.
Presented by City Bank, Blues Communications will organise the stage production, which is satirical, rich in humour, wit and intelligence, and also carries a message.
It will be performed in front of an audience in Bangladesh for the first time.
The staging is a tribute to Ismat Chughtai, a famous writer who is renowned as one of the influential writers of Urdu literature and known for her outspoken and revolutionary style of writing.
Three touching stories of Chughtai, “Chui Mui,” “Gharwali” and “Mughal Bacha” – which fundamentally deal with women and their struggles to survive in a male dominated society, will be narrated by the actors.
The play is distinctive due to its fusion of narration and mono-act theatre, where the actors jump freely and effortlessly from narration to characterisation and vice versa.
In the play, Naseeruddin’s daughter, Heeba Shah, narrates the first story, “Chui Mui.” Ratna Pathak narrates “Mughal Bacha” in a personal and interesting manner. Naseeruddin narrates the final story – “Gharwali” – himself. Vishal Bhardwaj has scored the music of the production.
