Beximco Dhaka notched up a narrow seven-run win over Gazi Group Chattogram in their match of the Bangabandhu T20 Cup Cricket at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur on Sunday.
Put into bat first, Beximco Dhaka piled up a fighting total of 145 for the loss of four wickets in the stipulated 20 overs and then restricted Gazi Group Chattogram to 138 for the loss of nine wickets in 20 overs.
Beximco Dhaka faced an early debacle as they lost three wickets for 23 runs.
Then Mushfiqur Rahim and Yasir Ali repaired the damage adding together 86 runs for the fourth wicket partnership before Yasir Ali was caught by Mosaddek Hossain off Mustafizur Rahman when Dhaka’s total was 109 for the loss of four wickets.
Mushfiur Rahim remained unbeaten with 73. His 50-ball sparkle innings was studded with three sixes and seven fours. Mushfiqur Rahim was adjudged the Man of the Match for his outstanding batting performance.
Yasir Ali made 34 from 38 balls featuring three fours. After Yasir’s dismissal, Mushfiqur Rahim and Akbar Ali contributed together 36 runs in the unbroken fifth wicket stand.
Nahidul Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, Rakibul Hasan and Shoriful Islam of Gazi Group Chattogram took one wicket each for 16, 19, 24 and 48 runs respectively.
Gazi Group Chattogram had an unhappy start as they lost their opener Soumya Sarkar for naught when Chattogram’s score was just one.
After Soumya’s departure, opener Liton Das and one-down Mahmudul Hasan put on together 47 runs in the second wicket stand before Mahmudul Hasan was caught by substitute Nayeem Hasan off Robiul Islam when Chattogram’s total was 48 for the loss of two wickets.
After Mahmudul’s departure, Liton Das and Mohammad Mithun added 48 runs for the third wicket partnership before Liton Das was caught by Shoriful Islam off Robiul Islam when Chattogram’s score was 96 for the loss of three wickets.
Liton Das hit a marvelous 47. His 39-ball knock was belted with three fours and a sixer.
Mahmudul Hasan made 26 from 24 balls including three fours and a sixer.
Mohammad Mithun scored 21 from 20 balls with one four and one six.
Later, Gazi Group Chattogram failed to make any notable performance.
Muktar Ali of Beximco Dhaka grabbed three wickets at the cost of 39 runs, while Robiul Islam and Rubel Hossain bagged two wickets each for 23 and 24 runs respectively.
Besides, Shafiqul Islam took one wicket instead of 25 runs.
