Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Wednesday caught red handed a deputy director of the Jessore District Narcotics Control Office while he was taking bribe money.
ACC deputy director (public relations) Pranab Bhattacharjee told UNB “Tipped off, a nine-member special team led by ACC’s Dhaka
divisional office director Nasim Anwar arrested the deputy director of the Jessore District Drug Control Department Mohammad Nazmul Kabir for taking bribe of Tk 2 lakh.”
He said Sheikh Mohabbat Ali, a local liquor license-holder under Jessore Drug Control Office, has complained that despite depositing required fees his license was not being renewed for long and as Ali met Nazmul Kabir, the latter demanded Tk 3 lakh as bribe.
Following repeated approached the Narcotics official lowered his bribe demand to Tk. 2 lakh.
The ACC spokesperson also added “The official (Nazmul Kabir) further said if he (Ali) did not pay the bribe, he will not renew his license.” Upon receipt of Ali’s complain, the Commission formed a special team to handle the case.
The members of the team were present around the Jessore District Office of Department of Narcotics Control from noon. When Nazmul Kabir was taking the bribe at his office at around 3.30pm, ACC team members arrested Nazmul Kabir red handed with the bribe money.
Assistant Director Mohammad Jahangir Alam of the coordinated district office of ACC Dhaka-1 filed a case with the Jessore Kotwali Model Police Station.
