The Department of Shipping (DoS) has cancelled the survey and registration certificates of cargo vessel MV Ruposhi-09 and capsized passenger launch ML Afsar Uddin.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) has suspended Narayanganj-Munshiganj launch service for an indefinite period in Shitalakhya River under Narayanganj district on Monday.
The decision was taken over the incident that took place on Sunday in the river Shitalakhya.
“We have cancelled the survey and registration
certificates of both the vessels. Stern action will be taken against the persons who were involved on Sunday’s fatality,” Director General of DoS Commodore AZM Jalal Uddin told this correspondent.
However, Sheikh Masud Kamal, joint director of BIWTA’s Narayanganj river port, said the launch service in Narayanganj-Munshiganj route has remained stop from Monday morning.
On Sunday, cargo vessel MV Rupshi-9 hit the launch ML Afsar Uddin in the Shitalakhya River in Narayanganj Sadar upazila where eight passengers were killed and some passengers remained missing.
