Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid today called for building a social movement across the country to ensure security of girl students.
“We are announcing a two-day programme to build up a social movement involving all levels of people of society to combat all sorts of violence against girl students,” he said at a press briefing at the Krishibid Institution, Bangladesh here.
Nahid said human chains will be formed for 15 minutes at all educational institutions across the country at 11am on October 18 while meetings will be held at all educational institutions on October 20.
Referring to different incidents of violent attacks on girl students, he said, “These types of violence would not happen in any civilized society … We are deeply saddened by these violent incidents.”
“Those committing these brutal incidents are enemies of the society. They are not human beings. They are beasts. So, we have to build a social movement to raise strong voice for stopping all sorts of violence against women,” he said.
Director General of Directorate of Secondary and Higher Secondary SM Wahiduzzaman and senior officials of the ministry, among others, attended the press briefing.
