Nahid for developing ‘framework of action’ by NAM countries

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Monday urged the NAM member states to develop a reliable framework of action to open up new opportunity of cooperation between the developed and developing countries in order to transfer, share and exchange technologies.
Nahid made the appeal while addressing the ‘Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Science, Technology and Innovation Ministerial Conference’ in Tehran, Iran, according to a message received here. President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Dr Hassan Rouhani earlier inaugurated the two-day conference on Monday. A three-member Bangladesh delegation, led by Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid, is attending the meeting.
In his speech, Nahid spoke about the development of Bangladesh and achievement of the government so far in the area of science, technology and innovation.
He said proper use of information technology can lead to the achievement of expected skills.
“So, the National ICT Policy was adopted in 2009 by the present government under the able leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and a remarkable result of National ICT policy implementation has already been reflected in the daily life of the people.” The Education Minister said a national science and technology policy has been formulated and adopted by the government. The National Council for Science and Technology (NCST) determines the Science and Technology policies, reviews the activities of different institutions and provides direction towards science and technology research and activities, he added.
Bangladesh has been elected as the vice chairman of the conference.
