ULAB 3rd Convocation: Nahid calls for more efforts to improve quality education

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Sunday said private universities are contributing a lot to expand the scope of higher education.
The minister was addressing the 3rd Convocation of the University of Liberal Arts, Bangladesh (ULAB), one of the top ranked private university of the country, as chief guest in the city’s Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC). He said, Already hundreds of universities have their own campus. ULAB also have a own campus & they are expanding it. It is a great news indeed.
Education minister said, considering students financial situation & reality, private universities should cut the tuition fees and others cost. So that it can make easy the way of higher education.
Nahid said, To improve the environment & quality of education we will have to give more effort. Government wants to build a modern and selft educated young generation and to do so the present government is taking all necessary steps in advancement of education. The Education Minister attended the convocation on behalf of the Chancellor of the University and President Abdul Hamid. Versatile writer Syed Shamsul Huq delivered convocation speech. ULAB Vice-Chancellor Professor Imran Rahman gave welcome speech. Dr Kazi Anis, Vice-president of ULAB Board of Trustees, also spoke on the occasion.
Writer Syed Shamsul Haq said, besides schools and universities nature is the best source of kinds of knowledge. So, we have to pay attention to the other sources of knowledge. We will have to prepare ourselves for the future. We will have to enlighten the society and country with the power of knowledge.
Professor Imran Rahman said: Attain a degree means stepping out to real world. I congratulate all the students who attained this precious degree. Our goal is to become a leading private university of Bangladesh in next 10 years.
Dr Kazi Anis said: We find it alarming that the proposed seeks to set fees of private universities. At the beginning of the convocation, graduates entered the convocation hall in a colorful procession.
Later, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid along with Viec-chancellor, Deans and Faculty members of the university reached at the convocation place.
Formalities of the convocation were started through the National Anthem, and recitation from holly books. After that the Education Minister formally inaugurated the convocation. A total of 1080 graduates participated at the convocation. Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid conferred gold medal among the students, who attained brilliant result. The BICC was turned into a jubilant centre by the overjoyed students for their completion of graduation. The ecstatic students took Selfie and group photography as well as sterling gossiping to make the day memorable. ULAB was formally launched at a ceremony on October 1, 2004 aimed at generating skilled manpower in the country through offering quality education. The second convocation of ULAB was taken place in 2014, where 704 students had received their certificates.
Mentioning the engagement of ULAB students with the economic activities of Bangladesh, Professor Imran Rahman said: “We are trying to be a part of building a knowledge-based society through providing quality education.”
The theme of this year convocation is “Light and Liberty”, which has been selected on the basis of the widely discussed thought “education means light and liberty” given by US social reformer Frederick Douglass. The key words of the theme are “education can ensure freedom of soul”. Future as well as relief from ignorance is determined through education. Poverty, unemployment, need and different kinds of crisis would possible to be overcome by the education.
