Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Tuesday called for creating awareness in society about the effects of climate change.
“If we fail to aware society, everything will be meaningless,” he said speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural session of a regional workshop for secondary school teachers and education administrators on climate change and use of energy at Nilkhet BANBEIS Building conference room in the city. The minister said the new generation would have to be made groomed with wisdom and skills in addition to ordinary education.
“They will be able to proceed, if we can prepare them with knowledge of modern age and skills,” he added.
He urged the teachers and education administrators to prepare the new generation with the knowledge of climate change and use of energy.
Nahid also stressed developing human values among the students. “The new generation would have to be developed with pragmatic knowledge, skills, experiences and human and moral values,” he added.
Presided over by UNESCO Bangladesh National Commission Secretary M. Manjur Hossain, the function was also addressed by Education Secretary M Nazrul Islam Khan as special guest.
UNESCO Malaysia National Commission Secretary Zaidee Bin Abdul Hamid also spoke on the occasion, among others.
