Naem Nizam, others sued under DSA, ordered probe report

The Dhaka Cyber Tribunal yesterday directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to submit a report on a case filed against seven people, including Bangladesh Pratidin Editor Naem Nizam, over publishing and circulating false, defamatory and offensive information by May 10.
The other accused in the case filed under Digital Security Act include- Bangladesh Pratidin Publisher Moynal Hossain Chowdhury; news portal Bangla Insider’s Chief Editor Syed Borhan Kabir and the admin, narrator, video maker and technician of the Facebook page called Viral Protidin.
Judge (in charge) Mohammad Iqbal Hossain of the tribunal passed the order after CID failed to submit their report on Tuesday.
Earlier on February 15, Barrister M Sarwar Hossain filed the case with the Cyber Tribunal of Dhaka against seven people.
Upon hearing on the issue, Judge Mohammad Ash Sams Joglul Hossain had recorded the complainant’s statements and directed Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to submit a report by March 15.
According to case documents, Naem Nizam and Moynal Hossain Chowdhury on September 7 and 8 last year, published two reports on Barrister M Sarwar Hossain in Bangladesh Pratidin which contained “false, defamatory, offensive and objectionable information”.
Syed Borhan Kabir on September 8 that year published a report about the complainant on his online portal, containing the same information.
Eight videos, which contained false, defamatory, offensive and objectionable information about the complainant, were published and circulated by the Facebook page, according to the case statement.
The seven accused published allegedly false and offensive information against Sarwar as he took part in the no-confidence petition against the final report that cleared Bashundhara Managing Director Sayem Sobhan Anvir from the charges of abetting suicide of a college student, the case statement added.
