24-hr hartal in Rajshahi: Nadim Mostafa on 4- day remand

Staff Reporter :BNP leader and former MP Nadim Mostafa was arrested on Monday. A team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) picked up him from his residence at Gulshan in the city in the early hours. After the arrest, Nadim Mostafa, also president of Rajshahi district unit of the BNP, was produced in the court and the court placed him on a four-day remand. Gulshan Thana police produced the BNP leader in a court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate in a case filed against him with the Thana under the ‘Explosion Act’.Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Asaduzzaman Noor passed the order of the four-day remand when Sub-Inspector of Gulshan Thana Md Barik sought a 10-day remand.Earlier the BNP called a 24-hour hartal in Rajshahi district from Monday evening. The district BNP demanded immediate and unconditional release of the leader. Meanwhile, the pro-BNP lawyers staged demonstration on the Rajshahi court premises, while the activists of district BNP Mahila Dal did it and protested arrest of Nadim Mostafa.  The BNP also claimed that the law enforcers raided the residence of its joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed on Sunday midnight. During the raid, the law enforcers misbehaved with the wife of Rizvi Ahmed and attacked a resident of the building, where Rizvi Ahmed’s flat is located, said BNP Vice-Chairman Begum Selima Rahman in a statement. She also said that the law enforcers detained the owner of the building and took him to DB Headquarters. She protested and condemned the incident.
