Nabajagaron at RU crafts hope for street kids

Nabajagaron Foundation, a voluntary organization of Rajshahi University (RU) students established a school namely ‘Nabajagaron Sikkha Niketon’ to spread the light of education among underprivileged street children living in Harizonpolli, near RU.
The school was established on July 14, 2014. About 30 meritorious students from different departments of the university under the Nabajagaron Foundation have been teaching the children where over 40 street kids come regularly in search of illuminated life in future.
The dedicated members of Nabajagaron Foundation not only conduct this school, they also distribute new clothing at Eid and Puja, warm clothes during winter season among those street kids.
They regularly arrange different competitions among the kids including sports, race, drawing etc throughout the year.  
Talking to the New Nation Abu Hurayra, president of Nabajagaron Foundation and student of RU Statistics Department said, some students of the university joined together with a view to engaging themselves with educative and social welfare activities on Dec 12, 2012 and established “Nabajagaron Foundation” in 2013.
“In course of our journey, Nabajagaron Sikkha Niketon was established last year where we are teaching the street kids in a temple at Harizonpolli where children are being taught from play to class five. The functions of the school are conducted from Sunday to Wednesday (3:00pm to 6:00pm) in a week”, he also said.
Md Hasib Al Mamun, Headmaster of the Sikkha Niketon also expressed his feelings while teaching those rootless children and said, all the teachers including me feel proud taking the responsibility of educating those kids.
“Education is the main tools for the development of a country. As we dream of flourishing our country in every sector, we should stood by those street kids who are really deprived of their human rights from birth”, he continued.
RU student adviser Prof Sadequl Arefin Matin said, many voluntary organizations existed in our campus but Nabajagaron is exceptional. “If we realize our social responsibility and come forward like Nabajagaron, it would become easy to make our country ‘Sonar Bangladesh’, Prof Sadequl also said.
Nabajagaron Foundation maintains its financial expenditures with subscription paid by twenty one executive members with TK 30 monthly and eighty nine general members with Tk 10. Besides, the university student adviser’s office and different teachers assist financially in different times, said Samiul Islam, General Secretary of the Foundation and student of Genetic Engineering And Bio-Technology Department.
Mentioning their financial limitation, Samiul urged the affluent section of the country, specially the RU family to stretch their hands so that they can continue such types of philanthropic activities smoothly.
