In this connection a case was registered with the local PS. But unfortunately neither the stolen clothes were recovered nor was any clue of this theft incident unveiled so far.
It is alleged that those who were involved in this daring theft are moving freely.
A reliable source added that a business enterprises imported costly and best quality cloth for panting and shirting instead of low priced fabrics after proclaiming false declaration. But the matter, some how, came to the knowledge of Mongla Customs authorities. Guessing the matter the importer enterprises did not take deliver of the imported cloth from the customs without showing any reason. On the other hand, the concerned persons of the business enterprises went into hide. In these circumstances, the customs authorities confiscated the cloth in favour of the Government and sold the same in an open auction to M/S. Babul Traders at Tk.52 lakh 32 thousand as the highest bidder. But on September 24, 2015 Md. Ali Akkas went to Mongla Customs on be half of M/S. Babul traders to take delivery of the cloth. But only 14 bales cloth out of 270 bales were found in the containers. That means 256 bales cloths were missing from the containers. Those 266 bales cloth were stolen after breaking the locks of the containers from the protected interior of jetty of the port on the night of September 21, 2015 during the times from 10 pm to 4 am. Then the auctioneer did not take delivery of the cloth and informed the Commissioner of the Customs House of the matter in writing. In this connection the Customs authorities formed a 4-men investigation committee headed by Md. Enamul Haq, Joint Commissioner of Mongla Customs House.
