4 suspended: Mysterious fire breaks out in train at Kamalapur Station

Staff Reporter :A fire broke out in a compartment of inter-city Parabat Express train at Kamlapur Railway Station in the city on Tuesday.The blaze was doused after hectic efforts for about an hour. No human casualty was reported immediately.The fire originated at around 2:57pm. The fire fighters of Fire Service and Civil Defence [FSCD] doused it at 3:50pm, said Duty Officer of FSCD headquarters.Officials said that the amount of loss would be Tk 5 lakh, although the FSCD men saved assets of Tk 30 lakh by quick action.They said that the reason behind the fire could not be known immediately. An investigation committee would be formed soon to unearth the cause of the fire. Railway officials said the Parbat Express runs between Dhaka and Sylhet six days a week. It arrived at the Kamalapur station yesterday 1:00pm and was waiting for departure to Sylhet when the fire broke out in one of its compartments.Information Officer of Ministry of Railways said that the fire took place when the train was taken to washing-pit line for cleaning before next journey. Railways Minister Mujibul Hoque visited Kamalapur Railway Station after the incident of fore. At that time the Minister ordered to suspend four officials, including Sub Inspector of Railway Security Force Md Tasbeer, Nayek Abdul Quader, guards Hafiz and Shahjahan for their negligence in performing duty.At the same time, the Minister ordered to transfer instantly the Commandant of Railway Security Force Zaharul Islam and Assistant Commandant Abdul Quddus. However, their posting places could not known immediately. Meanwhile, three separate investigation committees have been formed by Railways Ministry, Bangladesh Railway Department and Kamalpur Rail Station authorities to find out the reason behind the fire. All the committees have been asked to submit probe reports within next seven days.It is to be noted that the same type of fire incident had occurred in Paratbat Express in September last.
