Death of a young man in Sailkupa police custody in Jhenaidah sparked criticism among the people.
The deceased was identified as Sariful Islam Mandal alias Kazal, 35, son of Jul Haque Mandal of Rajapur village under Islamic University police station in Kushtia.
A three member probe committee was formed to investigate into the matter with additional Superintendent of Police (Special Branch) Protyush Kumar Majumder as the head of the committee.
Sailkupa police assistant sub- inspector Azad Hossain said, he arrested Kazal with some hemp from Bhatai Bazer under Sailkupa police station on Thursday night. Kazal was trying to commit suicide in the bathroom of the police station at about 11.00 AM on Friday.
