Dijlal Biswas, father of Dipankar Biswas, who was found dead in his uncle’s home in India, filed a petition with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs seeking an investigation into the death.
In the petition, Biswas wrote that his son went to India on February 22, 2020 for visiting his relatives in West Bengal. But he stayed there due to Covid-19 lockdown.
He carried Bangladesh passport (No EE0937157) with him.
After visiting several relatives, Dipankar stayed with his uncle Priyolal Biswas (elder brother of Dijlal Biswas) at Dahorthuba village of Habra Thana of 24 Parganas district in West Bengal, where he was found dead.
“On August 13, 2020, my brother informed me over phone that my son hanged himself with a bamboo. The news was also aired by few local channels (Bengal Live). News of his death was also published in a local daily ‘Bangladesh Protidin’,” Dijlal wrote in his petition.
In the petition, he said also “I never believe that my son can commit suicide by hanging himself with a bamboo pole. I suspect that my son might be killed and then hanged the body with a bamboo.
In this situation, I urge the Foreign Ministry to open an investigation through the Habra Thana of 24 Parganas district of West Bengal to unearth the real fact of my son’s death,” Dijlal wrote.
“I never believe it was suicide. He may be murdered. The authorities should look into the matter opening an investigation,” Dijlal Biswas told The New Nation on Friday.
