Students and interns at Mymensingh Medical College continued their strike for the second consecutive day on Sunday protesting an attack on a student of the medical college by miscreants. Intern doctor Tuhin announced the strike at a rally on the college campus protesting the attack on their fellow student Reza Hasan Toki on Saturday. He said they will continue their strike until the attackers are arrested. The students brought out a silent procession from the campus in the morning which ended at Baghmara medical dormitory. Teachers also joined the procession wearing black badges to express solidarity with the students. Campus sources said a group of miscreants, numbering 5-6, attacked Toki, a fourth year student of the medical collage, on his way to the college library from his Bhatikashar residence around 8am on Saturday. The miscreants chopped the student indiscriminately with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured. Toki was first admitted to the Mymensingh Medical College Hospital and later sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital by a helicopter for better treatment. As the news spread around, students staged demonstrations and brought out a procession on the college campus in the afternoon demanding the arrest of the attackers and their exemplary punishment. The also went on the wildcat strike at 3pm to press home their demand. Officer-in-charge of Kotwali Model Police Station Fazlul Karim said some local terrorists might have attacked Toki for his refusal to pay them toll.– UNB, Dhaka.
