Xinhua, Yangon :
Myanmar and Singapore will carry out technical cooperation program aimed at turning out skilled workers in Myanmar for successfully hosting the ASEAN Economic Community in Myanmar this year-end, state media reported Tuesday.
The memorandum of understanding on the program was signed by Director-General of the Technical and Vocational Education Department of the Ministry of Science and Technology Zaw Win and Singaporean Ambassador Robert Chua in Nay Pyi Taw on Monday.
The industrial and vocational training course covers electrical skills and electronics, facilities management, engineering services and hospitality and tourist, the report said.
Minister of Science and Technology Ko Ko Oo said the MoU will contribute to economic and human resources development and capacity building for the staff in public administration.
In April last year, Singapore set up a vocational training institute in Yangon to help Myanmar build up a pool of skilled workers.
Moreover, the International Enterprise (IE) Singapore opened its seventh overseas center in Yangon the same year for enhancing business ties between the two countries.
The overseas center facilitates trade and investment between Singapore and Myanmar in key sectors including infrastructure, industrial and urban development, transport and logistics, manufacturing and trading.
