A special representative of Myanmar government is likely to arrive in Dhaka on January 11 to discuss the burning issue of Rohingya Muslims.
The Myanmar representative will meet the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali and other officials concerned during his visit, the Foreign Ministry officials said. When contacted, Foreign Secretary Md. Shahidul Haque told The New Nation on Thursday night: “The special representative of Myanmar is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka on January 11. We’ll elaborate the envoy’s programme very shortly.”
Sources close to the Foreign Office said that Naypyidaw earlier wanted to send its representative to Dhaka on January 12. But the schedule was changed due to unavailability of the PM’s schedule.
Dhaka, however, expressed its firm determination to find out an acceptable solution over Rohingya crisis during upcoming meeting with the Myanmar envoy.
This is the first time Naypyidaw has expressed its interest to discuss Rohingya issue with Dhaka since violent clash broke out in its bordering Muslim dominated state Rakhine in October last forcing over 50, 000 people to take shelter in Cox’s Bazar.
