The Myanmar authorities have proposed Bangladesh a flag meeting to settle the ongoing bordering issues of the two neighbouring countries, especially the Rohingya influx.
Director General of Border Guard Bangladesh Major General Abul Hossain on Monday said,
“We’ve got a proposal to hold a flag meeting with the Border Guard Police [BGP] of Myanmar in the coming November month….We’re actively considering the offer and planning to take part in the flag meeting. “
The BGB Chief disclosed the information after distributing relief among the Rongingya people at Putibunia camp of Hoaikong under Teknaf upazila in Cox’s Bazar district.
About Myanmar’s provoking attitude, the BGB DG said, “At present, the situation in the border is good….. We’re always showing tolerance. We’ll not go against anybody
until we are under attack. You know, the war and negotiation can go altogether. If there is no relation with other side, the war cannot continue for an unlimited period.”
About 4,50,000 Rohingya people – an estimated 80% of them women and children – have crossed into Bangladesh since 25 August, when ethnic Muslim militants attacked 24 police posts and one army base. Apart from them, about 5, 00,000 Rohingyas are staying in Bangladesh since 1982, officials said.
