Police detained a Mayanmar citizen alongwith smuggled gold bars from Shah Amanat Bridge area under Bakalia thana in city yesterday morning .
Police recovered 6 gold bars from his possession. The Myanmar citizen identified as Md.Salam(40) . These gold bars were kept inside the shoes most tactfully. Officer incharge of Bakalia thana Md. Mohsin told this correspondent that Salam is a passport holder Myanmar citizen and he entered in Bangladesh through Teknaf Checkpost on May 2 .
Suspecting the movement of Salam in Shah Amanat Bridge areas, police searched him and he identified himself as a Mayanmar citizen andshowed his passport to police. With suspicion of Yaba traders, police searched his body and detected these gold bars from his shoes. He was now detained in Bakalia thana police and interrogation is continuing till filing this report.
Bakalia thana police sources said Mayanmar citizen Salam came over Bangladesh with these gold bars aimed at handovering these to some one gold smuggler but police detained him before disposal of the gold bars. Sources said Salam is the son of Late Harash Miah of Mondu province of Mayanmar.
