A newly built ship ‘MV Banglar Joy Jatra’ for Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) is ready for launching and naming tomorrow in Jiangsu, China.
Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan leading a five-member delegation left here last night for China to join the launching and naming ceremony of the newly procured ship, according to an official release issued on Monday.
China National Machineries Import and Export Corporation (CMC) built the ship having a 39,000-tonne capacity, which is expected to join the BSC fleet on July 5 this year.
The CMC has been awarded the contract to build six ships for Bangladesh Shipping Corporation at a cost of Taka 1,843 crore. Of the total cost, the Chinese government is giving Taka 1,448 crore, while BSC Taka 395 crore, the release said.
