Netrakona Correspondent :
Mustard farming has been gaining popularity in the district day by day as many farmers have been showing their keen interest in cultivating the crop for its easy farming and lower production cost.
During the current Robi season, the mustard growers are passing their busy days in farming the crop amid a favorable climate condition and availability of quality mustard seeds, fertilizers and other agri-inputs.
District Agriculture Extension Department (DAED) officials said the crop has already been cultivated on 4,800 hectares and more lands will be brought under the farming within the next fortnight.
They further said that the department has a target of bringing at least 5,747 hectares under mustard cultivation in ten upazilas of the district during the season with an estimated output of 6,660 tonnes of mustard.
DAED Deputy Director Bilash Chandra Paul told the BSS correspondent here that mustard cultivation has been gaining popularity day by day as the crop has already been recognized as a cash crop as the mustard oil is being exported to some of foreign countries where a considerable number of Bangladeshi people are living.
In line with the farmer-friendly programmes of the government, the crop specialists and agri-experts of DAED Netrakona have continued their field-level service for the mustard growers, Paul also said.
