UNB, Dhaka :A surgery on the left shoulder of Bangladesh’s young bowling talent Mustafizur Rahman was performed successfully under Andrew Wallace at Bupa Cromwell Hospital in London, on Thursday. The telescope surgery took about 50 minutes to complete. The operationwas supposed to start at 7 pm Bangladesh time, but it was delayed by one and a half hours.’Telescope surgery’ is a method where the surgery can be done by creating a hole at the back and front sides of the shoulder.According to orthopedic surgeon Andrew Wallace, it will take 12 weeks for Mustafizur to recover.Usually, a player needs 5-6 months to recover after this type of operation, said Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) physio Debashish Chowdhury, who was present at the operation theatre with Mustafiz.BCB President Nazmul Hasan Papon who is now in London to give confidence to Mustafiz, said, “He (Mustafiz) is not afraid of surgery, but fears stitches.””Every single player is important to us. Players like Shakib (Shakib Al Hasan) and Tamim (Tamim Iqbal) also had surgeries. But, Mustafiz is younger than them. He had just entered the national team. That’s why I am here to give him confidence,” Papon added.
