Bangladesh Planning Minister Mustafa Kamal has resigned from the post of the President of the International Cricket Council (ICC) protestation the injustices done to him and the country. Mustafa Kamal made the announcement of his resignation on Wednesday noon while addressing media at the Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka after returning back home from Australia. “My resignation is ready. It will be sent to ICC. From now on I’m not the present ICC President but a former ICC President,” he said. “It’s not possible for me to work with those who work unconstitutionally,” Kamal added. Kamal’s resignation came after he was not allowed to hand over the ICC trophy to the champion team of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 on March 29. Even since Bangladesh lost to India in the 2015 World Cup quarterfinals, Kamal was upset after a controversial no-ball incident that allowed Rohit Sharma to score a decisive century. He openely alleged the ICC of favouring with India. Kamal also stormed off during the World Cup final game at Melbourne when he was not allowed to present the trophy to the champions. N. Srinivasan, the ICC chairman did the honours. As per convention, it is the president who hands over the trophy to the winning captain. “I was not allowed to hand over the trophy. I couldn’t sleep the night before because, I represent my country. My right was snatched away,” he said. Indicating to the present ICC chairman and former BCCI president N Srinivasan , he said: ‘He (Srinivasan) called me before the night of the final match with some other ICC officials. I was told to submit apology or to withdraw my statement or I wouldn’t be allowed to hand over the trophy.” “I said ICC president must hand over the trophy. It has in ICC constitution. You can ask for explanation. But I was not allowed to hand over the trophy,” Mustaf Kamal added. Pointing to N Srinivasan, he said: Now the question is the person who has many controversies, even to the people of his own country. He has also many cases against him. If such a person becomes policymaker of cricket, what will happen to cricket then and how could I hold meeting with him. So I resign as the president of ICC. From now on what I will say will be as the former president of ICC. “I quit so that let the whole world know why I resigned as ICC president, to let the whole world know . . . what is happening in the ICC, to let the whole world know . . . what is truth,” he said “I want cricket to be blameless. Those who are righteous and believe in honesty, let cricket be led by them. Wising this, I am resigning,” Kamal added. Kamal had said that the ICC had become Indian Cricket Council. “There is nothing like International Cricket Council (ICC) it has turned into Indian Cricket Council (ICC),” he added.
