Mushfiq’s ton in vain as Mohammedan concede defeat

Despite a century by Bangladesh Test captain Mushfiqur Rahim, Dhaka Mohammedan SC conceded a two-wicket defeat against Victoria SC in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League at BKSP ground in Savar on Thursday.
In the day’s other matches, Legends of Rupganj beat Gazi Tank Cricketers by three wickets in Fatullah while Brothers Union beat all-losers Kalabagan Cricket Academy by six wickets at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.
At BKSP, Mohammedan decided to bat first after winning the toss and piled up a modest total of 247 runs for 9 in 50 overs.
Two down batsman cum Test captain Mushfiqur Rahman scored a century hammering 104 runs off 108 balls featuring four fours and five sixes and was adjudged man of the match despite his team conceded first defeat in two matches.
With the day’s feat, Mushfiq emerged as the highest scorer in list A cricket surpassing Abahani skipper Tamim Iqbal. He has now 5,804 runs in his bag against Tamim’s 5,788.
Apart from Mushfiq’s ton, Ariful Haque (not out 42), Faisal Hossain (26), Sri Lanka Upal Tharanga (21) and Nazmul Hossain Milon (19) were the other main contributors for Mohammedans.
Suhrawardi Shuvo made the major damage to the Mohammedans innings, grabbing four wickets for 29 runs while PC De Silva took two for 41 runs.
Chasing a target of 248 runs, Victoria SC reached their ultimate goal scoring 250 for the loss of eight wickets in 48.4 overs with top order national batsman Mominul Haque making the 69-ball 67 runs with seven fours and one six.
Besides, Abdul Majid (55), Nadif Chowdhury (not out 51), PC De Silva (38) and Al Amin (27) were other notable scorers for Victoria SC.
Habibur Rahman, Enamul Haque Jr and Naeem Islam took two wickets each conceding 43, 49 and 53 runs respectively.
In Fatullah, favoured by coin, Gazi Tank Cricketers batted first and scored 255 for 8 in quota 50 overs with Pakistani cricketer Saeed Anwar Jr scoring the team highest 70 runs off 74 balls hitting five fours and two sixes.
Besides, national coloured Shamsur Rahman (69), Anamul Haque (42), Faruque Hossain (not out 30) and Farhad Hossain (16) were the main scorers for Gazi Tank Cricketers.
National cricketer Soumya Sarker, Ashar Zaidi and Mosharaf Hosain claimed two wickets each giving away 14, 45 and 52 runs respectively.
In reply, Legends of Rupganj scored the match-winner 256 runs for the loss of seven wickets with two down Mohammad Mithun contributing 75 runs off 94 balls with seven fours and two sixes to be adjudged man of the match.
Besides, Asif Ahmed (not out 54), Ashar Zaidi (37), Alauddin Babu (not out 34) and Nahidul Islam (25) were the main scorers for Legends of Rupganj.
Delwar Hossain, Mehedi Hasan and Alok Kapali captured two wickets each giving away 28, 31 and 42 runs respectively.
In Mrpur, sent into bat first, Kalabagan Cricket Academy scored 213 for 7 in 50 overs with number four Mahmudul Hasan making 54 runs off 62 balls including two boundaries.
Sanjit Saha and Mohammad Shahid grabbed two wickets each conceding 23 and 43 runs respectively.
In reply, Brothers Union reached their target scoring match-winner 214 runs for 4 in 45.3 overs, featuring 125 runs in the 4th wicket stand by Sean Williams and Tushar Imran.
Number five batsman Williams contributed 81-ball 70 runs featuring seven fours and one six while number four Tushar Imran hammered an unbeaten 67 runs off 89 balls with four fours and was adjudged man of the match.
Besides, opener Shahriar Nafees made 29-ball 26 runs with five fours.
Bishwanath Halder and Mahmudul Haaan took one wicket each.
