Mushfiq shines with willow again

‘Mr Dependable’ Mushfiqur Rahim shone with the willow again. He hit a terrific 125 against Sri Lanka in the second One Day International (ODI) match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur on Tuesday. ‘Mr Dependable’ struck 10 fours in his 127-ball innings. The ace batsman reached his eighth ODI century using 114 balls including six fours. Bangladesh lost their early four wickets for 74 runs. Then Mushfiqur Rahim and his brother-in-law Mahmudullah Riyad salvaged their team from batting collapse as they put on together 87 runs for the fifth wicket partnership before Riyad was caught behind by wicketkeeper Kusal Perera off Lakshan Sandakan when Bangladesh’s score was 161 for the loss of five wickets.
Riyad made 41 from 58 balls featuring two sixes and a four.
Mushfiqur Rahim was caught at the point by Ashen Bandara off Dushmantha Chameera when Bangladesh were all out for 246 off 48.1 overs.
Earlier, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah contributed together 109 runs for the fifth wicket stand in the first ODI at the same venue on May 23. Mushiqur Rahim hit the day’s highest of 84, while Mahmudullah notched up 54. They played the vital role to score 257 for the loss of six wickets and beat Sri Lanka by 33 runs in the first ODI.
Mushfiqur Rahim fulfilled his 1000-run landmark against Sri Lanka in the Tuesday’s match.
‘Mr Dependable’ scored 6553 runs playing 226 ODI matches.
