The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced on Saturday the 17-member Bangladesh T20 squad for the upcoming Asia Cup. Litton Das has been ruled out due to injury. Soumya Sarkar was not included in the squad. Anamul Haque Bijoy and Parvez Hossain are the two specialist openers.
But Team Director of Bangladesh Cricket team Khaled Mahmud Sujon believes anybody can be opener of the squad.
Sujon said to the journalists on Monday, ” Anamul Haque Bijoy and Parvez Hossain Emon are the expert openers of the squad. But there are some batters who have performed as openers in local cricket. Mushfiq can open, Shakib can open. Miraz may act as opener, even Mahedi can open. We have many options in our hand.”
Sujon said, ” Our teams could not perform well now-a-days. So, we are trying for the betterment of our team. We are trying how the batters can perform well. Shakib returned to the squad, which is a positive sign. Everybody agrees that Shakib is the most experienced cricketer in this T20 format. He used to play many tournaments across the world in this format. He can also open if the team need.”
