Wicketkeeper-batter Mushfiqur Rahim of Bangladesh Cricket team announced he has retired from Twenty20 International (T20I) cricket. After returning home from the United Arab Emirates on Saturday the ace batter formally announced his retirement from T20I cricket. Bangladesh and Mushfiqur Rahim showed a dismal performance in Asia Cup. Bangladesh were ousted from the Asia Cup after taking part in the group phase of Asia Cup 2022. Bangladesh tasted a seven-wicket defeat to Afghanistan in their first Group-B match at Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the United Arab Emirates on August 30. Bangladesh suffered a two-wicket loss to Sri Lanka in their second Group-B match at Dubai International Cricket Stadium in the United Arab Emirates on September 1. Mushfiqur Rahim scored one run against Afghanistan and scored four runs against Sri Lanka.
Mushfiqur Rahim gave a post on his Facebook on Sunday. He wrote, ” I have been grateful to have you all beside me throughout my long career. Your support has been my inspiration during my highs and lows. Today, I am announcing my retirement from T20 Internationals. I will proudly continue to represent Bangladesh in Test and ODI formats. I am hopeful that I can bring success for our nation in these two formats. I will continue to take part in Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Cricket and other franchise tournaments. Alhamdulillah. Thank you all. Allah Hafez.”
The former captain of Bangladesh Cricket team scored 1500 runs in T20I cricket. He was the fourth batter of Bangladesh who made 1500 runs. He played 102 matches with an average of 19.48. His strikerate was 115.03. Mushfiqur Rahim, who is called ‘Mr Dependable’ is the 46th batter in the world who scored 1500 runs in T20I cricket. Tamim Iqbal, Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah Riyad of Bangladesh scored 1500 or above 1500 runs in T20I cricket. Mushfiqur Rahim took 42 catches and had 30 stumping out in his career.
The 35-year wicketkeeper-batter captained Bangladesh T20 Cricket team from 2011 to 2014. Bangladesh played 23 T20I matches under his captaincy. Of them, Bangladesh recorded eight victories, while lost to their opponents in 15 occasions.
