Magnificent tons by skipper Mushfiqur Rahim and Naeem Islam Jr. helped Legends of Rupganj to post their second successive victory as they beat Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club by 68 runs in the second round match of Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League held on Monday at BKSP ground no 4 in Savar.
Chasing a massive winning target of 306 runs, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club found the chase stiff and finally all out for 237 in 46.2 overs.
Sheikh Jamal failed to build any effective partnership to chase the total losing wickets in regular intervals.
Ziaur Rahman (42), Mahbubul Karim (36), Fazle Mahmud (33), Sohag Gazi (24) and Abdullah Al Mamun (20) got a good start but failed to convert those into a big knock in the face of tight bowling display by the Rupganj bowlers.
Naeem Islam Jr, M Sharif, Asif Hasan and Mosharraf Hossain shared two wickets each for Rupganj.
Mushfiqur Rahim of Rupganj was named the player of the match for his impressive batting performance.
Earlier, skipper Mushfiqur Rahim and Naeem Islam Jr. scored a magnificent ton helped Legends of Rupganj to post a massive total of 305 for 5 from their stipulated 50 overs, after they opted to bat first.
Rupganj faced early batting jolt as they lost both their openers inside three overs.
But, skipper Mushfiq and Naeem took the responsibility to stop the rot contributing 225 runs for the third wicket stand to take Rupganj to a commanding position.
Mushfiq, led from the front, with an impressive run a-ball 134 laced with 14 boundaries and one over boundary while Naeem supported him with a magnificent 103 runs off 118 balls that studded seven boundaries and one over boundary.
India recruit Jalaj S Saxena (23 n.o) and M Sharif’s (15 n.o) quick knocks helped to cross the Rupganj’s total over 300 runs landmark.
Pacer Shahadat Hossain and national discard Abdur Razzak shared two wickets each conceding 52 and 63 runs respectively.
