Head Coach of Bangladesh Cricket team Russell Domingo said, ” Liton Das will not act as a wicketkeeper in the five-match Twenty20 International (T20I) series against New Zealand. Nurul Hasan Sohan will perform as wicketkeeper in first two T20I matches, while Mushfiqur Rahim will act as wicketkeeper in the third and fourth T20I matches. After analyses the performance of two wicketkeepers, the better one will perform as the wicketkeeper in the last T20I match.”
The Bangladesh Cricket Board announced the 19-member Bangladesh squad for the upcoming New Zealand series. A total of three wicketkeepers are included in the squad. They are: Mushfiqur Rahim, Liton Das and Nurul Hasan. Musfiqur Rahim and Liton Das could not take part in the recently concluded five-match T20I Australia series. In absence of them, Nurul Hasan Sohan performed well as a wicketkeeper against Australia. However, a question was arisen that who will play behind the wicket wearing gloves? Russell Domingo cleared yesterday that who will role as wicketkeeper.
Meanwhile, There are three openers in Bangladesh squad. Though dashing opener Tamim Iqbal cannot play in the series due to injury but Soumya Sarkar, Mohammad Naim and Liton Das, all of them are opening batsmen. Russell Domingo did not clear which duo will perform as openers.
Domingo said, ” We have three batters, who can open the innings. They are Soumya, Liton and Naim. We shall finalise the openers within 24 hours after consulting with the selectors.”
He said, ” Mushfiq will bat in Number four position. He is a successful batsman in this position. He can retain the innings. He can take single runs in the middle of the innings. He can also act as a finisher. It is a good news that we get him again in our squad.”
