Election Commissioner (EC) Md. Alamgir has said that no one will win in any polls by using muscle power.
He said if anyone dreams to win in election by using muscle power that day won’t come. The departmental action will be taken if it is seen that the election organizers has shown irresponsibility. If any candidate hinders any other candidate’s campaign then their candidacy will be cancelled.
EC Md. Alamgir made the comments while discussing with journalist in EC’s Agargoan office on Tuesday.
Before that at 11 o’clock, Noakhali Hatiya’s two Union Parishad’s (UP) Chairman and Member candidates have staged demonstration in front EC head office.
They alleged that member of the Parliament (MP) of Noakhali-6 Aysha Ferdous’s husband Mohammad Ali’s people obstructed them to campaign. They informed local administration, but did not get any remedy. For that they came here to inform EC and asked to take proper action.
What will EC’s stand if anyone makes obstacle in election process, replying to journalist query, EC Alamgir said they will not be benefited. If we get information from any source that candidates have been barred, voters have been barred or not allowed to submit nomination papers. So the first thing we do, we postpone the schedule.
He said so if there is any other candidate then he can re-submit the nomination. If this is the case then the candidates are not safe then we give the opportunity to submit their nominations in the surrounding districts or upazilas.
He said it was the responsibility of the law enforcement agencies to arrange security and campaigning opportunities for the candidates and voters. We will take action against anyone who neglects his duty. We don’t think there will be any benefit in doing this. If a voter is barred from coming on election day, we will also cancel that vote. I don’t think those who are intelligent and conscious will do these things.
