Joynal Abedin Khan :Police has termed the murder of the Power Development Board (PDB) ex-Chairman Khijir Khan by some professional killers in the city on Monday as pre-planned.The miscreants slaughtered him from the back side with a sharp sword. The wound spot was eight inches long and two and a half inches deep. No other injury mark was found in the body, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Deputy Commissioner (Gulshan Division) Mostaque Ahmed. “At least six persons between 25 and 30 years of age visited Khijir around 8:30pm to make an advance rental payment for the ground floor of the house. They locked Khijir’s family before slaughtering him in his khanqa sharif, located on the second floor of the six-storey building. The family lives on the third floor,” the police official said. Police found a pool of blood on the floor of the khanqa sharif. The victim’s feet and hands were tied together with the shrine’s curtains.”The members of the law enforcers could not arrest the killers till Tuesday night. But they will be picked up soon,” the police official said. No case was filed with the police station in this connection, the DC said. Police are investigating the incident considering three primary topics. These are personal enmity, family dispute and religious issue. Police said that the murder od Khijir Khan was similar to the murder of Islamic scholar Maulana Shaikh Nurul Islam Faruqi, the police official said.”The victim died within a short time due to excessive bleeding,” said Dr Prodip Biswas of the Forensic Department of the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).The body was handed over to the family members of the victim after post mortem at DMCH. Contacted, Krishna Pada Roy, Joint-Commissioner (Crime) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), said that initial inquiries suggested there were six killers.”The killers first visited the third floor of the house and then went to the shrine room on the second floor. The perpetrators bound the family members’ hands and feet and locked them in a room while another group bound Khijir’s hands and feet before slaughtering him,” the police official said. However, Khijir’s daughter-in-law was able to free herself and came downstairs and found her father-in-law lying dead in a pool of blood,” the Joint-Commissioner said.One of Khijir’s followers, Towhidul Islam, said that every Thursday special prayers were held in the khanqa which Khijir officiated. Some 50 to 60 people gathered for the prayers in the khanqa sharif, local people said.Meanwhile, a large number of local people, including the students of Badda Mohanagar Degree College, arranged a protest rally by blocking the street in front the house of the victim. They also demanded the immediate arrest of the killers.
