Noakhali’s Basurhat municipal mayor Quader Mirza has been named in a case filed over the death of a man during a clash between two rival groups of local Awami League in Companiganj upazila.
Brother of the deceased, Alauddin, CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver, lodged the case with Companiganj Police Station on Thursday evening in this connection.
Earlier from this afternoon, police and the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members surrounded the municipal building. Quader Mirza was staying inside the office when the report was filed.
Companiganj Police Station officer in-charge (OC) Meer Zahedul Haque Roni said additional police have been deployed across the area to avoid any untoward situation.
